The Peace Walk

During a peace walk in India, a small street dog began following a group of Buddhist monks. Many stray dogs came and went, but this one stayed. When the monks brought her to America, they adopted her and named her Aloka, a Sanskrit word meaning light. Soon known as the Peace Dog, she joined them on their 2,300-mile Walk for Peace from Texas to Washington, D.C., bringing attention to compassion, peace, and care for all living beings. As the walk moved across the country, Aloka quickly became a focus of attention. Walking quietly beside the monks, she embodied the spirit of the journey. Thousands followed along online, drawn to the calm steadiness of the walk at a time when the daily news was overwhelming. Checking in on the walk each day, the artist felt the hope moving forward step by step. That feeling eventually became The Peace Walk. In support of the monks’ Aloka Foundation for Animals, a special fundraiser connected to The Peace Walk offers supporters the opportunity to receive an archival print of the painting.
