BEASTS OF BURDEN lll
Beasts of Burden lll continues to take advantage of the momentum of the animal rights movement and relies on the power of art to shake up our perceptions in fun, disturbing and poignant ways. Some artists examine the human- animal bond from the perspective of our nostalgic past perceptions, others look to a dystopian future imagined for animals due to our exploitation of them and their environment.
The animals are seen as spiritual beings, depended upon companions, are represented anthropomorphically, are dressed up to help their maligned image, or examined as commodities in food, science and entertainment industries. Through these artists we see how completely entwined animals are into our lives, both in psychological terms and in concrete ways.
Beasts of Burden lll features artists Anthony Burks Sr., Sue Coe, Nancy Diessner, Peter Drake, Karen Fiorito, Sophie Gamand, Raul Gonzalez lll, Wendy Klemperer, Jo-Anne McArthur, Moira McLaughlin, Cynthia Minet, Moby, Jane O’Hara, Julia Oldham, Melanie Oliva and Gretchen Woodman.
